The Object of the Boys Brigade
The object of the Boys Brigade is ---
|
|
"The advancement of Christ's kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness."
|
|
With the exception of the addition of the word "Obedience" which was added about 1893, the object has remained the same throughout the history of the Boys Brigade.
What has changed is the way that we go about promoting that object.
We recognise that the influences surrounding young people and the pressures that they experience from various sources are not always helpful and that too many lose control, this being at great cost to themselves, their families and the community. The answer is to catch and harness the energy and enthusiasm of youth and to channel it purposefully.
The Motto and Emblem
Our emblem is an anchor backed with a red cross and the initial letters on each side.
The Boys' Brigade Motto is ---
The motto is taken from the Bible, the book of Hebrews, Chapter 6, Verse 19.
The original spelling was "Stedfast" as it appeared in the Victorian text. In later years the modern spelling was used and Boys Brigade companies still use either type, however all official paperwork from head quarters has the modern version.
