Photographic forgeries exist of stamps from plate 9. As these were copies of actual stamps the lettering possitions match those shown in the actual examples shown above. The photograph is believed to have been taken from a block of mint stamps, but the size is not known. These stamps appear on paper without watermark, although a pseudo watermark appears on the reverse. This has been achieved by impregnating the paper with dust in the shape of the small crown, (probably through a stencil of some kind). Because of this, any examples which have been soaked do not show the watermark impresion.
Although mint stamps were used in the production of these forgeries, most examples are known used with a forged Maltese cross cancellation. These are known to have been supplied as loose stamps, (either singles or multiples which show the watermark impresion), on tied to piece.
