The Land Registry Archives held at their head office, (Lincoln's Imm Fields, London WC2A 3PH), appear to be grouped in files. These files are assigned a reference number, (as are many of the intems it contains), but there is no individual reference for each item.
This means that should you be doing research in this area and wished to look at information relateing to the supply and sale of adhesive fee stamps, you may be given refence number 095-19. This file contains many letters sent to or from the Land Registry and all these would need to be sifted through to extract any useful details.
In an attempt to make these details easier to access, especially for those where getting to London could be a problem, this project will attempt to make as much of this detail as possible available online. The first step is to index the files - and this has been done using the original refence number and our own system for items within the file. Thus the first selection, (using the example above), would be to select file 095-19. From here a list is presented and the numbers here are in the form of 19671027, followed by a description. The number is the date of the letter compossed of the year, month and day, and where there are two or more items of the same date, these will have A, B, C etc added. The reference number is also presented as a link, and this will show a scan of the item from the archives.
When the select item is being viewed, text at the bottom, (below the illustration), gives details of how the item is stored in the archives or in the case of refences made, the file numbers of the related items. These are also presented as links, (when the item has been traced) so that all the related data can be viewed witout having to return to the menu and re-select the additional items.
